The fine art of Fine Art Photography

Years ago when I was President of a camera club I spent far too many nights trying to persuade people it didn't matter if they shot film or digital images…just that they took out their cameras and used them. Well, that argument has long been in the dust bin, however, I often hear photographers saying thing like, "that image is not natural" or "it's been photoshopped" etc. etc. Speaking for myself, many of my images are "natural" and many have been worked on extensively with various software. It just depends on what my imagination and instinct is telling me to do. Anyway, to each his own I suppose but for those who believe all images, especially "fine art" images should always be "natural" let me remind you of a few things…1. The definition of "fine art" is…creative art, especially visual art, whose products are to be appreciated primarily or solely for their imaginative, aesthetic, or intellectual content. 2. For those who shoot black and white there is nothing natural about that medium at all. 3. Whether its the hyper-realistic skies in Ansel Adams' work or the impressionist beauty of a Monet, fine art lives and thrives through the heart and imagination of every photographer who is willing and able to commit to developing and exploring his or her talents to the max.
